Procedure to get a job in Singapore

1) Find a job. That’s the first step of all. I look through at some Singapore job enlistment website such as:

--Jobstreet

--Contact Singapore

--Jobs Central

--Jobs DB

2) Your resume will be reviewed by the company. If they are satisfied with you application, you will be called for an interview. It depends on the company, some may require you to have face to face interview while some may want phone interview. If they want you to have interview in Singapore, then probably you need to rent a hotel or hostel in Singapore. I was lucky because my brother is studying in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, which this state is connected to Singapore by a 10min drive bridge. Therefore, I went for the interview during the day and stayed over his house at night.

3) Make sure you reach Singapore one or two days earlier so that you can settle down and locate the company. You need to find the company before the interview because you won’t like it if you get lost during the day you have interview (it took me half a day to locate my company). Some company may require you to have second or third interview. So, you might need to extent your stay in Singapore.

(I stayed 4 days for my first interview and 2 days for my second interview.)

4) Once I got my job offer. I was required to fill in a form to register myself with MOM (Minister of Manpower). Most of the time, you only required to fill in the form and your company will settle the rest. After two or three days, give the company a call to confirm has your application being approved or not. At the same time, I started to look for room. You can find rooms for rent at these website:

If you are unfamiliar with Singapore I would recommend you to get an agent. Although you need to pay extra fees, they will help you to find a place where fits your requirement.

5) Once your application has been confirmed, you will receive a medical checkup form and In-Principle Approval letter (IPA). Go to any clinic around Singapore which has medical checkup for EP service. The process of the medical checkup is fast. Last time I did, it took me 15 min for general check up and blood test and less than 1 min of x-ray scan. They will take approximate 2 working days to compile the report. With the IPA letter, you can start work with the employer.

6) After got the medical checkup report, the company made an appointment for me at the MOM website. All you need to do is bring all documents required and pass them to Employment Pass Services Centre (EPSC). You will be required to bring a passport size photo. Do not worry, there is photo taking service beside EPSC. Trust me, I would recommend you to take photo there because they know the requirement demanded by EPSC. I took a photo at my place, Kuala Lumpur, but I found out that the face is too small. Then I took another photo again at JB, but they claim that there is reflection on my glass. Lastly, I need to take another photo at EPSC. It cost me RM 12 + RM 14 + 6 SGD.

7) When you reach EPSC, go to the kiosk and scan your ticket. Then have a seat while waiting for your name to be displayed on the screen. It took me around 10mins of waiting. When your name is displayed, go to any counter available and pass all your documents. Then they will take your fingerprint and you are done. Your short term visit pass will be clipped along with the form. In addition, they will notice when you will be getting your card.

8) The whole process to apply for work permit takes less than a month. For whoever planning to get a job in Singapore, I hope my article gives you a much clearer idea on what you should do.
